GPS Waypoints Features

GPS Waypoints is a standalone application that includes both “free” and “premium” features. The Free features are flexible enough to offer general users a way to collect and create Waypoints and Paths with accurate coordinates. The Premium version provides additional advanced features for professionals to automate data acquisition and manage the data collected.

The application starts on the Dashboard showing the current position details (including accuracy) and both the visible and active Satellites used for acquisition. The users can create, classify and import points with the Waypoints functions while the Paths functionality supports lines and polygons used for tracking movements or measuring distances, areas and perimeters. A description of the free and premium functionalities is presented in the table below.

Menu items  Functionalities Free /
Dashboard Actual Position: geographical coordinates (WGS84 using Decimal Degrees or Degrees Minutes Seconds format) or universal projection (UTM).
Altitude Above Sea level: converted from ellipsoid altitude (or elevation) using EGM96 reference geoid.
Compass: magnetic north.
Acquisition Modes: Acquiring GPS Signal, Network, GPS, DGPS.
Satellites Satellites in view: visible satellites at a given moment at user’s location.
Active satellites: satellites from which the device is actually determining position.
Skyplot: graphical representation of the satellites’ locations.
Signal: interference analysis and detection. P
Waypoints Create: add a new waypoint on your actual position.
Geocoding: find and set the address of a waypoint.
Tagging: classify a waypoint using the user’s tagging model.
Auto-create: automated creation and tagging of a waypoint using shortcut keys. P
Import: create a waypoint manually from known coordinates (lat, long) or from street addresses. It allows also to create the multiple waypoints at once from CSV or GPX files.  F/P
Search & Filter (premium only): sort waypoints by creation time, alphabetic and proximity and/or filter by tag. P
Get me there: get directions and distance to a Waypoint.
Export: save your waypoints to KML, GPX and CSV (premium only) for further processing on GIS tools (e.g. google maps). F/P
Share: send exported data via email, dropbox, gdrive, etc.
Paths Create Paths/Polygons: manually acquire a sequence of points to form a Path or a land Polygon.
Auto-Path: acquire automatically a sequence of points with a fix time interval.
Import: create a Path manually from existing Waypoints or automatically from a GPX file. F/P
Distances & Areas: calculate the distance or areas and perimeters from a sequence of points acquired on the field.
Export: save paths to KML, GPX and CSV (premium only). F/P
Tags Base theme: define a set of tags (metadata) to classify your Waypoints and Paths.
Import/Export themes: save locally the base theme (export) or load presaved themes (import).
Maps Online maps: select and visualize Points, Paths and Polygons on Open Street Maps (requires internet connection). Maps
Configuration Positioning Source: uses the built-in GPS receivers from mobile devices (up to 1.5m accuracy) or, alternatively, connects to external GNSS receivers via Bluetooth or USB (e.g. <1m).
Log: record on files the NMEA positioning sentences for post-analysis. P
Backup Backup and restore: it is a professional feature for saving the user’s work (especially useful when acquiring a large number of points) or for transferring/migrating data for one device to another. P
